Pneumonia/ Bronchitis/ Atelectasis/ Influenza Flashcards
(27 cards)
Inflammation of the lung that can be triggered by numerous infectious agents, injurious agents/ events, or pulmonary secretions
Pneumonia
Mild, can lead to secondary bacterial pneumonia
Viral pneumonia
More common than viral, most often due to streptococcus pneumoniae
Bacterial pneumonia
Aspirated fluid entering the lungs
Aspiration pneumonia
Confined to a single lobe
Lobar pneumonia
Most frequent type, a patchy pneumonia across several lobes
Bronchopneumonia
Occurs in the areas between the alveoli, routinely caused by viruses or by uncommon bacteria
Interstitial (atypical) pneumonia
Develops more than 48 hrs after hospital admission
Nosocomial pneumonia
Acquired outside the hospital or health care setting
Community acquired pneumonia
Caused by yeast like fungus and dangerous for people with HIV or a AIDS
Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia
Caused by legionella pneumophila which thrives in warm, moist encironments like AC units
Legionnaire’s disease
Not contagious spread through aerosol droplets, but presents high risk in immunocompromised; life threatening
Legionnaire’s disease
How is legionnaire’s disease diagnosed?
Urine test for legionella antigens
Inflammation of the tracheobronchial tree/ large bronchi
Acute bronchitis
Obstructive respiratory disorder characterized by inflammation of the bronchi, productive cough, and excessive mucus production
Chronic obstructive bronchitis
Hypoventilation, hypoxemia cyanosis, polycythemia, clubbing fingers are manifestations of?
Chronic obstructive bronchitis
What is used to diagnose COB
ABGs, CBC (pulmonary function tests)
Incomplete alveolar expansion/ collapse of alveoli which occurs when alveoli stick together
Atelectasis
Surfactant deficiencies, bronchus obstruction, increased surface tension, and lung fibrosis are causes of?
Atelectasis
A nurse is auscultating the lungs of a patient and notices dimished breath sounds.
What could this indicate?
Atelectasis
What is used to treat patients with atelectasis?
Incentive spirometer
Highly adaptive viral infection that may affect the upper and lower respiratory tract
Flu
Most severe and most common type of flu
Type A
Milder, moderate adavptive
Type B
