What is essential when hiring crew?
It is essential to ensure the person has the appropriate skills and personality, is correctly trained, and has the necessary certificates and documents according to the job role and vessel’s flag requirements.
What should be checked about the passport?
The passport must have a minimum of six months validity left and two blank pages available for visas.
What is required regarding visas?
Check the correct visa if required and assist with paperwork to obtain one if necessary.
How should the validity of certificates be checked?
Check if the CoC is accepted by the flag of the vessel or if a CeC needs to be obtained.
What medical document must be checked?
Check the validity of an ENG1 or Seafarer Medical.
Who interviews the candidates?
The HODs will invariably be interviewing the candidates.
Who gives the final approval for hiring?
The Captain gives the final approval after the HODs interview the candidates.
What is the role of the Purser after hiring approval?
The Purser will make all the necessary arrangements to get the new crew member on-board.
