What is explicit knowledge vs. tacit knowledge?
Explicit knowledge - Data, information, documents, records, files (ex. in manuals, handbooks)
Tacit knowledge - Experience, thinking, competence, commitment, deed (difficult to explain to others)
What are the 5 qualities employees should have to succeed in the workplace?
- Professionalism
- Teamwork
- Oral communication
- Ethics / social responsibility
- Reading comprehension
What is are the terms for training funding – fixed amount, operating budget, and operating departments?
Fixed amount is allocated the training department each year.
Training costs come from the operating budget (ex. each department has a budget, like finance)
Operating departments contract with the training department to provide training.
What is the cost per trainee?
Cost per Trainee = Total Costs of Training / Number of Trainees
What is the systems model of training for evaluating a training initiative?
- Assessment phase
- Assess training needs and resources
- Identify training objectives
- Develop criteria - Training and Development phase
- Pretest trainees
- Select training methods and learning principles
- Conduct training - Evaluation phase
- Monitor training while training is conducted
- Measure outcomes against criteria

What is the ADDIE model of training?
- Analysis: gather data and identify discrepancies between actual performance and desired performance
- Design: determine goals and objectives; decide course content; plan delivery methods
- Development: create training materials or purchase them and modify them to meet objectives
- Implementation: deliver training program to desired audience
- Evaluation - compare training program results to the course objectives
What are the 3 factors of a training needs analysis?
Organizational Analysis - How well the organization is achieving its goals
Task Analysis - Skills needed by the workforce to accomplish goals
Individual Analysis - Strengths and weaknesses of current employees
