2.2 Study Flashcards
(10 cards)
How is population growth determined by death?
Death is a negative growth factor since the population is decreasing.
How is population growth determined by birth?
Birth is a positive growth
How is population growth determined by immigration?
Immigration is a positive growth since there is people adding to population.
How is population growth determined by emigration?
Emigration is a negative growth because people are leaving the population.
Where is population growth the highest in exponential growth?
It is the highest when it is initially small.
Where is population growth the highest in logistic growth
It is the highest when it is halfway to carrying capacity.
What do the variables N, N0, r, t, K, dN/dt stand for?
N= Population size
N0=original size of population
r=Per Capita of growth
t=Time
K=Carrying capacity
dN/dt=Population growth rate
Density dependent and its limiting factors?
Effect is dependent on the density of the population. Ex: Competition for water, disease
Density independent and its limiting factors?
Effect is not related to/is independent. Ex: Drought natural disasters
How exponential and logistic growth models change when r, N, or K change?
When r is changed the rate of growth becomes steeper in exponential growth model. Changing K effects the maximum population size that the model can reach so if population is below K then it will increase, but if it is above K then it will decrease.
