8.1 Study Guide Flashcards
(10 cards)
The procedure of the griffith experiement
Mice were injected with different combinations of pneumoniae bacteria. S strain and Non-virulent R strand with rough capsule.
Procedure of Avery, McLeod, and McCarty
Isolated different components from heat-killed s train bacteria treating them with specific enzymes to destroy different macro molecules like proteins, RNA and DNA.
Procedure of Hersey and chase experiement
It was very similar to the Griffith experiment but they tested radioactive phosphorus and radioactive sulfur. The bacteria with phosphorus entered the bacteria cell showing DNA represented DNA genetic material.
Parts of a nucleotide
Nitrogen base. phosphate group, sugar molecule, DNA and RNA
The structure of a DNA model
Double helix, sugar phosphate backbone, form anti-parallel, two stands of nucleotide, held together by hydrogen bonds.
Smilarites and Differences of DNA and RNA
RNA is single stranded while DNA is double stranded, both nucleic acids
Analyze the Griffith experiement
R strain bacteria had been transformed by S strain bacteria
Analyze the Avery, McLeod and McCarty experiment
Proved DNA is the genetic material
Analyze the Hersey and Chase experiment
Proved DNA, not a protein, is genetic material by proving how DNA directs the production of new viruses.
Sulfur marks proteins and phosphate is in DNA
