3.3 Study guide Flashcards
(7 cards)
Def of Tropic levels
Level in an ecosystem and an organisms position it occupies in the food web.
Def of Autotroph
An organism that can produce its own food. Using light, water, and carbon dioxide. These are normally called producers.
Def of Heterotroph
an organism that cannot produce it’s own food taking nutrition from other sources. These are normally secondary, primary, and tertiary consumers.
Herbivore vs. Omnivore vs. Carnivore vs. Detritivore
A herbivore is an animal that feeds on plants, and omnivore is an organisms that eats both plants and animals, a carnivore is an organism that only eats on animals/ flesh, and a detritivore is an organism that feeds on dead organic material.
Describe differences between food web and trophic cascade diagrams
The difference between a food web and a cascade diagram is that 1 the cascade diagram shows if its indirect or direct impact on an organism and if they are benefiting or not benefiting the organism. A food web only shows that energy and the animals that other organisms feed on.
Identify trophic levels of organisms in a food web
Level 1 you will find herbivores in the food web, level 1 and higher you will find omnivores, and levels 2 and above you will find carnivores.
Make predictions using a trophic cascade model
