8.3 Study Guide Flashcards
(8 cards)
Definition of transcription
Process of making RNA copies of a DNA sequence
Definition of central dogma
The concept that genetic information flows in one direction.
Base paring rules for RNA
A=T, G=C A=U
Differences and similarities between DNA and RNA
DNA is double stranded, RNA uses Uracil and adenine while dna uses adenine
Parts of a eukaryotic gene
Promoter- Start where TF and RNA binds to it
Enchancer- Acts as a switch
Introns-Removed during splicing
Exons-Kept to form m RNA
Stages of transcription
Initiation-Transcription factors are binding to promoters
Elongation-Adds protective cap
Termination-Sequence is cut and poly a tail is added
What happens during the splicing process
Edit out introns
What happens during alternative splicing
Keep different combinations of exons.
