Q

What anchors the bladder in the female? What is the trigone? Describe the innervation.

A
  • Smooth muscle sac anchored to pubic bone in the female by the tough pubovesicular ligament (puboprostatic in the male)
  • The trigone is the smooth, internal triangular area between the ureters and urethra.
  • Parasympathetics cause bladder contraction
  • Sympathetics innervate the internal urethral sphincter of the trigone
