Anatomy of a Myofibril Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What is the SARCOMERE?
A
Basic Contractile Unit of Myofibril made of Protein Filaments
2
Q
What is ACTIN?
A
- Thin Contractile Protein filament
- Contains binding-sites on Troponin and Tropomyosin
3
Q
What is MYOSIN?
A
- Thick Contractile Protein filament
- With Myosin Heads that bind to form Cross-Bridges
4
Q
Describe the ROLE of TROPONIN
A
- Allows Ca2+ to bind onto it
- Interacting with Tropomyosin to unblock Myosin-Head binding sites
- Allows for a Cross-Bridge to start Contraction Process
5
Q
Describe the ROLE of TROPOMYOSIN
A
- Globular Protein that blocks Myosin-head binding sites on Actin
- Prevents Cross-Bridge formation so no Contraction
