Anatomy of the Neuro-Muscular System Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Describe the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
A
- Consists of the Brain & Spinal Chord
- Sends impulses called Action Potentials to a Motor Unit
- To stimulate a nerve cell
2
Q
Describe MOTOR UNITS
A
- Single nerve cells
- Innervates Skeletal Muscle
- Stimulates Muscle Fibres of the unit via signals from the Brain
3
Q
Describe MOTOR NEURONES
A
- Nerve Cells connected to an axon that connects to Skeletal Muscle
- To stimulate movement
4
Q
Describe AXONS
A
- Long slender fibre of a Motor Neurone
- Conducts electrical impulses away from nerve to Muscle Fibre
5
Q
Describe the NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION
A
- Site where the Axon of a Motor Neurone and Motor End Plate of Muscle fibre meet
- Separated by Synaptic Cleft
