Q
Define OSMOLALITY
A
Concentration of dissolved particles in a fluid
5
Q
Describe HYPERTONIC SOLUTIONS. When are they GOOD TO USE?
A
- Higher conc than body (<10%)
- Good post-exercise to replenish CHO’s
- Good for endurance or intense athletes
6
Q
Describe HYPOTONIC SOLUTIONS. When are they GOOD TO USE?
A
- Lower concentration than body (2-4%)
- Quickly replaced fluids but less CHO
- Good for short duration activities
7
Q
Describe ISOTONIC SOLUTIONS. When are they GOOD TO USE?
A
- Have a similar concentration than body (6-8%)
- Replenish fluids and glucose
- Good for intra-workout
