What is the responsibility of the “Rescue Coordinator”?
The Company Officer assumes this position and shall be located where they can observe and direct the whole operation.

The Company Officer assumes what position (s) during a water rescue?
The Company Officer assumes is the “Rescue Coordinator” if responding with 5 FF’s and will also assume the “Spotter” position if responding with 4 FF’s until additional units respond.

What are the duties of the”Spotter”?
A FF or Company Officer (4 FF’s) will assume this position and shall be positioned where they can keep sight of the victim.

What can the “Spotter” use to get a better vantage point to see the victim?
The Spotter can use the Apparatus, Aerial or Tower Ladder to facilitate spotter position.

What is the “Primary Rescuer” responsibility and what does he/she wear?
Primary Rescuer dons a PFD, Fins and equipped with the torpedo.This will b the First member to approach the victim.

What is the “Secondary Rescuer” assignment and what equipment does he / she wear?
Secondary Rescuer dons a PFD, Fins, & Tether Line only OR a tethered surfboard depending on water conditions.

Tether Firefighter assist Primary and Secondary Rescuers how?
The Tether FF will assist the Rescuers in Donning equipment. Feeds and controls the tether line. Pulls rescuers and victim back to safety.

All 3 rescuers Primary, Secondary & Tether FF.

What rescuers wear PFD, Fins and are equipped with a tether line?
Only the Secondary Rescuer is equipped with a Tether Line & Harness. The Primary Rescuer is not tethered.

What are the Primary Rescuers responsibility and what does he / she wear?
Primary rescuer wears PFD, Fins and the only Torpedo. He / she enters the water walking backwards and swims out to the victim letting the torpedo drag behind on the down sweep side.

Does the Primary Rescuer need to keep the victim in sight when there is a spotter available?
YES!

What are the procedures if the victim is ambulatory?
If the Victim is ambulatory The Primary rescuer should stop before reaching the victim. Keep the torpedo between the rescuer and victim. This will allow the rescuer to assess and reassure the victim. Hand the victim the torpedo.

What are the procedures for a NON Ambulatory Victim?
The Primary Rescuer grabs the victim from the rear, resting the victims back on the rescuers chest and holds the torpedo under the victims armpits.

While the Primary Rescuer establishes buoyancy and awaits the Secondary Rescuer with the tether line, what does the Secondary Rescuer do?
The Secondary Rescuer swims out to the Primary Rescuer and Victim wearing PFD, Fins an Tether with Harness. Upon arrival at Primary Rescuer the Secondary removes the harness and hands it to the Primary Rescuer. BOTH rescuers hold the victim under the arms with one hand and the other hand holding the harness.

The secondary rescuer enters the water with the teether line attached to the surf board and paddles out to the primary rescuer and Victim.
