1

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Tissue damage due to immune complexes

Decreased Treg cells
Increased ANA
Anti-dsDNA autoantibody present
Anti-smith present
Histo sections may demonstrate immune complex formation
Decreased C3/C4

Rash on face

2

Rheumatoid Arthritis

B cells in synovium of the join produce Ig which is recognized as foreign
RF is an antibody produced against that Ig molecule.
The RF antibody reacts with Ig molecule and immune complexes bind complement and cause inflammation and join damage

Presence of ANA
Increased Rheumatoid factor (RF)
Increased ESR
