INDICATIONS?
A
Moderate to severe pain & reduce venous return in pulmonary edema (CHF/AMI)

CONTRAINDICATIONS?
A
Undiagnosed head/abdominal injuries, hypotension, hypovolemia, respiratory depression & acute bronchial asthma

SIDE EFFECTS?
A
Respiratory distress, brady, palpitation, hypotension & cardiac arrest

ACTION?
A
Natural opium alkaloid that acts on the opiate receptors in the brain. Provides analgesic/sedative effects. Vasodilation, reduction of venous return and a decrease of myocardial O2 demand.

ADULT PAIN?
A
2.5 to 15 mg IV/IO or 5 to 20 mg IM/SC

ADULT PULMONARY EDEMA?
A
1 to 2 mg IV/IO 6 to 10 min

0.05 to 0.1 mg/kg IV/IO
