neurogenic shock Flashcards

1

Q

etiology (causes) of neurogenic shock

A
  • CNS trauma
  • Hypoxia – not ATP
  • hypoglycemia– no glucose cannot function
  • generalized anesthetic

Q

patho of neurogenic shock

A

-vasomotor center defect causing sympathetic ouput impaired causing loss of vessel tone which causes vasodilation causing hypoperfusion

Q

Mnfts of nuerogenic shock

A
  • hypotension
  • bradycardia (sympathetic output impaired, sympathetic control of HR & affected, will drop)
  • dry & warm skin (block in sympathetic output blocks sympathetic nervous system from causing perspiration)

Q

treatment of neurogenic shock

A

-RESTORE SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM CONTROL
for treatment before that:
- positive inotrope to increase contraction of heart (increase cardiac output causing more perfusion)
-administer IV fluids to increase blood volume
-administer ADH to increase blood volume, ADH reabsorbs water
