perinatal infections-CMV Flashcards
(5 cards)
Methods of diagnosing CMV infection step by step
1) IGg titer ,pcr or viral culture
2) targeted sonography
3) Amniocentesis after 21 weeks gestation ( according to ultrasound findings)
4) 2 samples of CMV IgG serology ,3-4 weeks apart
**if from negative to positive or increasing titres in samples=primary CMV
or low avidity=primary infection
5) CMV IgG avidity is used when both IgM and IgG are positive.
** Low avidity indicates an infection that occurred in the last 6 months while high
avidity rules out the possibility that infection occurred in the last 4 months
