Gonorrhea pathogenesis
- caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a gram-negative diplococcus.
*Cause an acute pelvic inflammatory disease (acute PID). - The long-term sequelae arise from pelvic adhesions, causing chronic pain
and infertility.
Gonorrhea ,Lower genital tract infection symptoms
vulvovaginal discharge, itching, and burning
with dysuria or rectal discomfort.
** Vulvovaginitis is seen on inspection.
2. Mucopurulent cervical discharge is seen on speculum exam.
Gonorrhea , Upper genital tract infection ,symptoms :
- : bilateral abdominal-pelvic pain.
Disseminated gonorrhea symptoms :
characterized by dermatitis, polyarthralgia,
and tenosynovitis.
**Petechial skin lesions, septic arthritis, and, rarely, endocarditis or
meningitis, may demonstrate with disseminated gonorrhea.
Gonorrhea Diagnosis
Nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) of either cervical discharge
or urine is used.
Gonorrhea Management
Single dose of IM ceftriaxone 1 gm plus a single oral dose of
azithromycin 1 gm
**af allergic to penicillin give clindamycin
