Flashcards in *TB 44- Rotary Saw Deck (37):
What safety equipment shall be used when operating a rotary saw
Helmet, gloves, googles
What two unique hazards make the rotary saw a dangerous tool?
1. Blade continues to spin after throttle is released
2. Gyroscopic effect
How far can hot sparks be thrown from a rotary saw?
Up to 15 feet
The partner saws normally use what diameter cutting blade?
What three types of blades can be used on the rotary saw?
1. Carbide tipped blades
2. Abrasive wheels
3. Diamond blades
Which of the three types of blades should you avoid cutting metal with?
Diamond blade, it will reduce the life of the blade
Which blade should only be used for emergency operations?
The cutting blade and guard should be mounted in what position to make cuts close to walls, floors ect?
The cutting blade and guard should be mounted in what position to make ventilation holes?
What can used as a depth gauge when using the rotary saw for ventilation purposes?
The blade guard
What part if the saw is most likely to be damaged when binding occurs?
What tool should be carried with the rotary saw to facilitate adjustment of the belt or provide blade change?
Checking the belt tension is a daily, weekly or monthly check?
Checking the blade guard for damage is a daily, weekly or monthly check?
Checking the saw for loose nuts and bolts is a daily, weekly or monthly check?
Checking the spark plug condition and gap is a daily, weekly or monthly check?
How much clearance should the spark plug for the Partner saw have?
Inspecting the engine case for cracks or leaks is a daily, weekly or monthly check?
Checking the belt condition is a daily, weekly or monthly check?
How often should you replace unused fuel in the rotary saw?
When is this check done?
During monthly checks
When should the the air filter be checked for accumulation of debris and fiber condition?
After each use
What shall not be used to clean molten tar from the heads and fins of the rotary saw engine?
When should the blade guard be cleaned?
After each use
How should all abrasive dust be removed from the rotary saw?
With compressed air
What is the minimum diameter of blade that can be carried on the Partner saw for emergency operations?
When blades are worn beyond the recommended mounting requirements, what can they be used for?
When should abrasive blades be sent in to S&M for exchange?
Diameter is 9" or less
Blade is damaged
Blades which have been damaged and are no longer safe for use shall be marked with a F-175 Tag and the word _____ shall be marked on the blade before forwarding for replacement.
Abrasive blades must have a spindle speed rating of how many RPMs?
5,000 rpm or higher
What product should be stored away from rotary saw composition blades?
In warm weather, the rotary should start after how many pulls?
When de flooding a rotary saw, how should you place the saw on the ground?
Exhaust side down
When de flooding a rotary saw, how many pulls are needed to clear the cylinder of fuel?
If blade or belt does not turn when the throttle is engaged, the condition of ______ needs to be checked.
What are the stated procedures to prevent the blade from binding during cutting operations?
1. Adjust blade guard to control cutting depth.
2. Enter all cuts at full rpm.
3. While cutting vertical surfaces, make certain blade is kept at right angle to surface.
4. Always cut in straight line (do not twist saw to, either side).
5. Release throttle and immediately remove blade from cutting surface if binding occurs to avoid belt damage
What is the proper way to clean the air filter for the rotary saw?
To remove trapped debris, tap the filter gently on the palm of your hand. Compressed air or solvents SHOULD NOT be used to clean paper filters.
