Bio Lab Development Flashcards
(11 cards)
Blastocel
fluid-filled cavity
vegetal pole
large concentration of yolk
animal pole
less concentration of yolk
ectoderm
outer layer epidermis of skin nervous and sensory systems pituitary gland, adrenal medulla germ cells
endoderm
lines embryonic digestive tract
epithelial lining of digestive tract
epithelial lining of respiratory, excretory, and reproductive tracts
thymus, thyroid, and parathyroid glands
mesoderm
middle layer skeletal and muscular systems excretory and reproductive systems (except germ cells) dermis of skin adrenal cortex
archenteron
formed when cells drastically rearrange from shallow depression to a narrow, deep tube (primitive gut)
blastopore
open end of archenteron. will become anus. (will become mouth first in protosomes)
notochord
rod that runs along dorsal side of chordate embryo. formed from cells coming together. disappear before birth
somites
formed from groups of cells from the mesoderm lateral to the notochord. separate into blocks. major role in forming vertebrate (and repeated structures)
neural groove
formed from ectoderm. becomes neural tube.
