They get breakdown into simple sugars such as glucose and produce energy
How do you classify carbohydrates?
Starch, fibre, sugar
What are some sources of sugar?
Milk, cake, biscuits, jam, soft drinks, ice cream
What are some sources of starch?
Cereals, potatoes, root vegetables, pulse vegetables.
What are the sources of fibre?
Vegetables, fruit, brown rice, brown bread
What are the functions of carbohydrate?
Sugar and starch:heat and energy
Fibre:prevent constipation and other bowel diseases
How does fibre prevent constipation?
It absorbs the water, it becomes bulky.
What are refined cereals?
Cereals that have been processed and the fibre gets removed
What does whole cereals mean?
These haven't been processed to lose fibre
