What is the main regulations regarding diversity, inclusion and teamworking?
Equality Act 2010
What are the 9 protected characteristics in the Equality Act 2010?
age;
disability;
gender reassignment;
marriage/civil partnership;
pregnancy/maternity;

sexual orientation.
What are the advantages that a diverse team provides?
A broader range of knowledge, skills, and experiences
Better decision making and problem-solving due to different perspectives
Teams can better reflect the communities they are serving.
What is unconscious bias?
when we make judgments or decisions on the basis of prior experience, our thought patterns, assumptions or interpretations,
and we are not aware that we are doing it
How can you overcome unconscious bias?
Be aware of unconscious bias
Make considered decisions
Monitor your and your team’s behaviour
Pay attention to bias linked to protected characteristics
What negative effect can unconscious bias have when forming a team?
Lack of diversity
Obstruct a clear and fair appraisal of team members
Certain team members may feel undervalued.

What is Diversity?
the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.
What is Equity?
recognises that not all employees will have been given an equal chance either growing up or as they entered the workplace,
Equity seeks to address that imbalance by ensuring a person has the right tools and support to ensure everyone is on a level playing field.
while equality in the workplace provides all employees with the same opportunities (one size fits all).
What is Inclusion?
part of a workplace’s culture and is a choice to include or exclude people from conversations, projects or events
What would you do if someone in your team was discriminated against based on their skin colour?
The actual consequence will depend on the severity and frequency of the discriminatory action.
The person could face disciplinary action that may include a warning, sanction or referral to the RICS.
What does your company do to encourage diversity and inclusion?
There is an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee who run events aimed at supporting inclusion
