What is hepatitis?
Inflammation of the liver, usually caused by viral infections, toxins, alcohol, medications, or autoimmune diseases.
What are the common causes of hepatitis worldwide?
Viral hepatitis types A, B, C, D, and E.
How is Hepatitis A transmitted and what is its usual clinical course?
Transmitted via the fecal-oral route; usually acute and self-limiting with no chronic form.
How is Hepatitis B transmitted?
Through blood, sexual contact, and perinatally (mother to baby).
What is unique about Hepatitis D virus?
It is a defective virus that requires HBV infection to replicate.
What patient group is at higher risk of severe disease from Hepatitis E?
Pregnant women.
Which drugs are main options for chronic Hepatitis B treatment?
Entecavir, peginterferon alfa, tenofovir alafenamide, tenofovir disoproxil.
