How are various disease organisms spread?
By contact with infected air, water and solids
What prevents the spread of disease/disease organisms?
Food hygiene and personal hygiene
How diseases spread: airborne
Bacteria and viruses can be breathed in as infected droplets released by coughs and sneezes, or as spores with dusty air
How diseases spread: skin - to skin contact
Skin- to skin contact spreads some skin conditions. e.g., Gangrene and tetanus may occur if infected soil gets into an open cut
How diseases spread: animals
Cats, dogs, goats, guinea pigs, horses, terrapins, parrots and other pets are liable to harbour + transmit a variety of diseases
How diseases spread: contamination
Germs contaminating food/water can produce cholera, dysentery, polio etc.
How diseases spread: flies/bites
Flies contaminate uncovered food with bacteria and bites of certain parasitic insects spread disease
Tumours
Abnormal swellings produced when cells divide and multiply out of control
Where can tumours occur
In almost any body system
Benign tumours
Grow slowly, may stop growing, and are usually harmless

Malignant tumours
Spread fatally though body tissues unless soon killed
