Types
1-Cutaneous leishmaniasis
Localized skin ulcers
Caused by species like L. tropica, L. major, L. mexicana
2. Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis
Destructive lesions of mucous membranes (nose, mouth, throat)
Mainly caused by L. braziliensis
3. Visceral leishmaniasis (kala-azar)
Systemic infection: fever, hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopenia, weight loss
Caused by L. donovani, L. infantum, or L. chagasi
Mode of transmission
*bite of an infected female phlebotomine sandfly
*The sandfly injects promastigotes into the skin, which are then phagocytosed by macrophages and transform into amastigotes that multiply intracellularly

Na sitbogluconate
Meglamine antimonate.
2-Amphotrecin B
3-Liposomal amphotrecin B
4-Pentamidine
