Αγόρασα μια αμερικανική εφημερίδα και μετά πήγα σε ένα* καλό εστιατόριο με μερικούς αμερικανούς φίλους.
*the words ‘se ena’ merge to form the sound sena.
Note the spelling variation of the verb φτάσω - arrive - in the attached conjugation table. Such variations are common in the Greek language.
Here you are. The newspaper is for you.
Ορίστε. Η εφημερίδα είναι για σας.
How does she ask: ‘And you, what did you do today?’
I saw some American friends.
(translate all of the above, as is)
Did you speak Greek?
Not this morning.

Όχι σήμερα το πρωί.
This morning I saw some American friends.
We spoke English.
Σήμερα το πρωί είδα μερικούς Αμερικανούς φίλους .
Μιλήσαμε αγγλικά.
I saw some American friends and we went to a good restaurant.
Είδα μερικούς Αμερικανούς φίλους και πήγαμε σε ένα καλό εστιατόριο.
Why are you here in Athens?
I am going to work here.
Γιατί είστε εδώ στην Αθήνα;
Θα δουλέψω εδώ.
Is your wife here?
Yes, we’re going to stay here a few days together, and then my wife is going to Chania.
Does she speak Greek?
My wife is Greek.
Είναι εδώ η γυναίκα σας;
Ναι, θα μείνουμε εδώ μερικές μέρες μαζί, και μετά η γυναίκα μου πάει στα Χανιά.
Μιλάει ελληνικά;
Η γυναίκα μου είναι Ελληνίδα.
She’s going to Chania because our daughter lives there.
The older one?
No, the little one.
Πάει στα Χανιά γιατί η κόρη μας μένει εκεί .
Η μεγάλη?
Όχι η μικρή.
The older one (daughter) lives in Chania.
Does she speak Greek?
Yes, she speaks very well.
Η μικρή μένει στα Χανιά.
Μιλάει ελληνικά;
Ναι, μιλάει πολύ καλά.
My wife rented a car today because she wants to go to Chania and our daughter wants to go there.
Your younger daughter?
No, the older one.
Η γυναίκα μου νοίκιασε ένα αυτοκίνητο σήμερα γιατί θέλει να πάει στα Χανιά και η κόρη μας θέλει να πάει εκεί.
Η μικρή κόρη σας;
Όχι η μεγάλη.
She doesn’t have a car.
She doesn’t need a car.
Δεν έχει αυτοκίνητο.
Δεν χρειάζεται αυτοκίνητο.
(in the two above sentences the absence of the article is normal because you are speaking generally - this applies especially to negative and interrogative sentences)
Today we’re going to eat dinner with our son and with our daughter.
Σήμερα θα φάμε βραδινό με τον γιο μας και με την κόρη μας.
Does your son have a car?
He needs a car because he wants to go to Patras.
Ο γιος σας έχει αυτοκίνητο;
Χρειάζεται αυτοκίνητο γιατί θέλει να πάει στην Πάτρα.
Our son speaks a little Greek.
Ο γιος μας μιλάει λίγο ελληνικά.
He rented a car this morning.
Νοίκιασε ένα αυτοκίνητο σήμερα το πρωί.
Our younger daughter lives in Chania.
She needs a car.
Η μικρή κόρη μας μένει στα Χανιά.
Χρειάζεται αυτοκίνητο.
Our older daughter lives in Athens.
She doesn’t need a car.
Η μεγάλη κόρη μας μένει στην Αθήνα.
Δεν χρειάζεται αυτοκίνητο.
Our son arrived yesterday evening.
When did he arrive?
He arrived at 11pm.
Ο γιος μας έφτασε χθες βράδυ.
Πότε έφτασε;
Έφτασε στις έντεκα.
(the difference in spelling of the verb to arrive in this flashcard and the attached conjugation is normal: both forms exist and are equal in value.)
We didn’t see our son yesterday evening because he arrived very late.
Δεν είδαμε τον γιο μας χθες βράδυ γιατί έφτασε πολύ αργά.
I went to Patras with my husband.
What did you do there?
Πήγα στην Πάτρα με τον άντρα μου.
Τι κάνατε εκεί;
We arrived at nine.
Φτάσαμε στις εννέα.
also spelled ‘φθάσαμε’ as in the attached conjugation table.
We bought a newspaper.
Αγοράσαμε μια εφημερίδα.
We saw a lot of things and then we went to a good restaurant.
We had dinner with our son in a good restaurant.
Είδαμε πολλά πράγματα και μετά πήγαμε σε ένα καλό εστιατόριο.
Φάγαμε βραδινό με το γιο μας σε ένα καλό εστιατόριο.
(remember in spoken language: ‘se ena’ is merged into ‘sena’)
Do you like Patras?
Yes, I like Patras a lot.
Our son wants to go there tomorrow.
Σας αρέσει η Πάτρα;
Ναι, μου αρέσει πολύ η Πάτρα.
Ο γιος μας θέλει να πάει εκεί αύριο.
