What are the responsibilities of Operational and functional Sector Commanders

A

Operational= responsible for a physical area of the incident ground

Functional = responsible for managing a support function such as water

Describe the line of communications at sectorised incident

A

Sect Commander ops to IC or Ops Commander if appointed.

Functional Commander to report via appropriate reporting structure either direct to IC or via a Functional Sector Coordinator

A

Coordinate the operational sectors and

Exercise the IC’s Authority

Should not become involved in functional sectors

Should assist sector Commanders with operational tactics and maintenance of SSOW.

Describe vertical sectorisation

A

Bridgehead = normally 2 floors below fire.

Fire sector = floor above bridgehead, fire floor/floors and 1 floor above

Search sector = area above fire sector. Search, rescue, ventilation ops

Lobby sector = area of operations from ground floor to fire sector INCLUDING bridgehead

A

Lobby sector = ground floor

Search sector = between fire sector and ground level

Fire sector = fire floor and 2 floors above

Can be flexible depending on circumstances

A

Named according to it’s role e.g. Water sector, salvage sector.

How does the command function differ for major incidents

A

At all major incidents where inter agency communications are necessary operational, tactical and strategic command function will apply as detailed in LESLIP

Sector Commanders will be at Operational level,
IC will be at Tactical level supported by Ops Commander/s
