2.7.5 Participants Flashcards
(7 cards)
Identify the target population in your experiment
Staff at Edgbarrow
Outline how your sample may not have been representative of target population in exp.
- sample only includes teachers (not support staff)
- does not include teachers who don’t have any 6th Form teaching
What was the sampling technique used in your experiment
Volunteer sampling
outline one strength of the sampling technique used in your correlation
- i could recruit my sample quickly and easily
> i put up posters around sixth form asking for teachers volunteers and then wait for the sample to approach
outline one weakness of the sampling technique used in your correlation
Volunteer sample:
- teachers may have only signed up because they believe they are good at the stroop task
- those who weren’t good may have been embarrassed to volunteer
- Participants who took part may not represent the wider teacher target population so can not generalise findings
Suggest one way the representativeness of the sample could have been improved in your correlation
Use stratified sampling to ensure a mix of different types of staff (e.g., support staff, non-6th form teachers) are included
Suggest an alternative sampling technique that could have been used in your correlation
stratified sampling
