ideas spread to influence public opinion for/against a cause

type of war in which trenches (ditches) are guarded by barbed wire. each side digs trenches and tries to fight over the land in between

war based on wearing the other side down by constant attacks and heavy losses

war involving complete mobilization of resources and people
