Swings, strollers, bouncer seats for extended periods of time! Some use is ok
How much screen time should infants get?
If they’re under 18 months, none other than facetime
What are sleep recommendations for 4-12 months?
12-16 hours including naps
What kind of car seat do infants need?
Rear-facing car seats
What is the max temp water heaters should be set to?
120 F
What has helped prevent SIDS?
Babies sleeping on their back with no toys, sheets, etc.
What are safety recommendations given in infancy?
Don’t shake the baby, rear facing car seat, avoid small bites and toys to reduce choking risk, do not carry hot foods or liquid near the baby, vaccinate!
What are some screenings done during the infant stage?
Caregiver depression and social determinants of health
At the toddler age, what should toddlers drink?
Water or milk, no juice!
What happens with toddlers and food?
They may become pickier or eat less; just offer healthy foods and let them pick
What is true of toddlers and activity?
Allow them to have plenty of activity and free play
What are recommendations for screen time in toddlers?
No more than 1 hour of quality programming and avoid screens in the bedroom
How much sleep do 1–3-year-olds need?
11-14 hours including naps
What is the leading cause of death in toddlers 1-3?
Drowning
What are some safety measures for toddlers 1-3?
Lock up firearms, “baby proof” handles, fence off pools, protect from railings, plug outlet covers, anchor furniture, never leave the toddler alone, do not leave a toddler in the car alone, keep rear car set for as long as possible and use harness once forward
When do we typically start toilet training?
Somewhere from 18 months to 2 years
By what age are kids normally daytime potty trained?

What activities do we encourage in toddlers?
Pretend play, reading/singing songs, playing matching and quiz games, allow some dressing independence
How do we manage discipline in toddlers?
Reward good behaviors vs punishing bad ones (aka LOTS of positive reinforcement)! Introducing brief time-outs is ok
When do we usually start incorporating time outs?
around 2, but mostly 3-5
What are common ways we have lead exposure?
Eating lead paint chips, ingesting contaminated food or water, breathing in lead dust
