Module 2: Acids Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is an acid?
An acid is a compound which releases H+ ions in aqueous solutions
Examples: HCl, H2SO4, HNO3, CH3COOH
What is an alkali?
Alkalis are water soluble bases, they release OH- ions into aq solutions
Examples: NaOH, KOH and NH3
What’s a base?
A substance which can accept H+ ions
What’s a strong acid?
An acid that completely dissociates when in solution
What’s a neutralization reaction?
A reaction between H+ and OH- which forms water, could be an acid and base forming a salt.
What’s titration?
A technique which determines the amount of a solution of a known concentration needed to react with one with an unknown conc.
What’s a weak acid?
An acid which only partially dissociates
