Module 2: Amount Of Substance Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is anhydrous?
A crystalline compound which has no water
What is atom economy and its formula?
It’s a measure of reactants which turn into useful product.
Formula is percentage = molecular mass of desired product/all molecular mass of reactants x 100
What is avogadros constant?
The number of particles per mole (6.02x10^23)
What is composition by mass?
Relative mass of each element within a compound
What is hydrated?
A crystalline compound which has water
What is the empirical formula?
The simplest whole number ratio of atoms
What is the amount of substance?
It’s a way of counting atoms in the unit of moles,
Mass = n = m/M
Gas volumes = n = pV/RxT
Solution volume = n = CV
n = moles
M = molecular mass
What is ideal gas and its equation?
It’s a gas which a gas which occupies very little space without any interaction
pV = nRT
What is percentage yield?
Formula = percentage yeild = actual yeild/theoretical yeild x 100
The percentage ratio of actual yield compared to theoretical yield
What is stoichiometry?
The quantities of substances in a reaction, balancing a reaction
What is water of crystallization?
Water molecules that form part of crystalline structure
