Module 3: Qualitative Analysis Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
What’s an anion?
A
A negatively charged ion
2
Q
What’s an ammonium ion?
A
An ion with the formula NH4+, the test is reaction it with sodium hydroxide, forming NH3
3
Q
What’s a cation?
A
A positively charged ion
4
Q
What’s a carbonate ?
A
A salt with the formula CO3 -2 charge, a reaction with a carbonate and H+ will form CO2 (g)
5
Q
What’s a halide?
A
A salt which has a group 7 anion.
Cl-, Br- and I- can be tested using silver ions, the color precipitate shows which halide it is.
The solubility can be tested by using dilute, and concentrated ammonia.
6
Q
Whats qualitative analysis?
A
It shows the elements in a substance
7
Q
What’s a sulfate?
A
A salt which has the anion SO4, -2 charge
