Not “salvation” in the Christian sense. But ‘purity’ in the sense of being free from worldly entanglements by attaining liberation.

Does not simply mean mode or quality. Meaning is dependent on context (see Apte p663).
गुण is the substratum of qualities of prakriti: sattva (equanimity); rajas (greed); tamas (delusion, ignorance.)
