Cell Types Involved In Wound Healing L5 Flashcards
What are Labile cells
Cells involved in wound healing that are constantly dividing and proliferating throughout life. They are derived from Adult Stem cells
Examples of Labile cells
1) Gut epithelium
2) Corneal Epithelium
3) Blood cells
Function of corneal stem cells
Corneal stem cells in the limbus constantly differentiate into corneal epithelial cells which migrate over the cornea. Dead cells in the central cornea are squeezed out and removed in the tear film
What are stable cells
These cells normally divide at a slow rate. However when stimulated by the right growth factors they can significantly increase their replication rate and divide more rapidly (Hyperplasia)
Examples of stable cells
Hepatocytes Fibroblasts Vascular Endothelial Cells Smooth Muscle cells Osteoblasts
What are permanent cells
These cells cannot divide, they cannot go through mitosis. However they may be capable of some cellular repair if necrosis is not initiated.
Examples of permanent cells
Neurons (rods, cones, ganglion cells of the retina)
Cardiac Myocytes
