Immune Responses L10 Flashcards
What is IgG
Most common immunoglobulin and and can cross the placenta to give babies immunity
What is IgM
1st type of immunoglobulin produced in the immune response and goes on to further activate complement system. Its a pentamer of basic 4 polypeptide structure
What is IgD
Its a cell surface receptor on B cells
What is IgA
It has a dimer of basic immunoglobulin structure and is the most common Ig in external secretions
What is IgE
Has Fc receptor which bind to mast cells and basophils and plays an important part in allergy
The initial antibody response following a primary antigenic challenge involves ………..
As ……….. levels fall the levels of ………… begin to rise
Secondary antigenic challenge involves a rapid ………. response
1) IgM
2) IgM
3) IgG
4) IgG
What cells act as long term repositories of antigens
Dendritic cells in secondary lymphoid tissues
How are memory B cells maintained
They are maintained by recurrent signals from dendritic cells
What are histocompatibility antigens examples of
Cell surface glycoproteins
Where are Class I gene products found and what do they participate in
They are found on all nucleated cells and participate in antigen presentation to cytotoxic T cells
Where are Class II gene products found and what do they participate in
They are found on antigen presenting cells and participate in antigen presentation to T helper cells
What does HLA stand for
Human leukocyte antigen
What does Class I region consist of
HLA- A, B, C loci
What is Class II region divided into
HLA-DP, DQ, DR sub regions
What is special about HLA antigens and what are they useful for
They are highly polymorphic with multiple allelic forms which different from one person to another. They are important for the ability of T cells to differentiate between self and non-self (HLA antigens not possessed by individual are seen as foreign
