What is neoplasia?

A

Neoplasia is an abnormality of cell growth and multiplication characterised by the following:

  • excessive cellular proliferation usually producing a tumour.
  • uncoordinated growth occurring without apparent purpose
  • persistence of excessive cell proliferation and growth even after inciting stimulus is removed

What does it mean to have a benign tumour?

A

A tumour that stays at site of origin - less dangerous than malignant tumours however damage by compressing neighbouring tissue.

A

They are metastatic and so spread alongside having a rapid growth and spreading effect.
