Patient Assessment —-

  1. medication should be clear with no particles or discoloration before injecting
  2. Monitor for signs of bleeding

Contraindications -

  1. do not give a patient has history of heparin induced thrombocytopenia.
  2. Stop 24 hours before surgery
  3. Not take with other blood thinners

  1. This is considered a low molecule weight heparin (LMWH)

The benefits of of LMWH over heparin

  1. Once daily injections
  2. No lab monitoring
  3. Can be prescribed as outpatient therapy
