Beta blockers action

A

They block ____

E=fight or flight

This is great with it with heart problems because we do not want their heart stimulated

Decrease BP, hr

Increased contractility ( pumping will be more effective )

The effects r the same in calcium channel blocker

Contraindication

A

Betsa blockers don’t give to asthmatics because some beta blockers work on the heart and lungs and that would not be great for patients with asthma
Or patients with diabetes because when a blood sugar drops the heart rate will go up to compensate

Calcium channel blocker’s action

A

They block calcium from getting into the cells.

Calcium has excitatory response on the body so if u blocked the calcium u have the effects of decrease pulse, bp and increase In heart contractility so it reduces the oxygen demands of the heart

Contraindications for calcium channel blocker

A

Grapefruit juice

Never give cholesterol drugs with grapefruit juice

Calcium channel blocker’s/beta blockers treat the same three things

A

Hypertension( high BP )

Angina (chest pain)

Arrhythmias(in regular heart rhythm)

Note* beta blockers will also treat glaucoma because they bring that pressure down

Pulse, BP

Hold the meds is pulse was less then 60 in adult

And no was so systolic no was less than 100
