27
What are you weekly checks of the axle hubs (front and tiller for 00-06)?
Check fluid level
28
What is the F-377?
Bi-monthly preventative maintenance record
29
Proper maintenance of apparatus is dependent on what?
Orderly procedure | Established inspection routine
30
When are F-377 performed?
Every other month in accordance with following schedules During the first 2 weeks of every even month for heavy apparatus
31
Who reviews and sign F-377?
Station commander
32
How many copy’s for the F-377 and where do they go?
2 copies, 1 in logbook the other to station commander for filing
33
Items checked on apparatus that are in good condition and not in need of service, repair, etc shall be marked what in designated column on F-377?
OK
34
A brief statement of the trouble in which column shall indicate items requiring attention?
Repair comments
35
Members calling in needed repairs shall log on the F-377?
Name of person contacted Instructions received Date
36
If a reserve apparatus has had limited use within the 2 month period is it necessary to fill out an entire F377?
No, only checks that you feel necessary However, at 6 month oil change entire F-377 must be filled out
37
The F-377 shall be filled out at what level with the determination made that needed repairs have been properly reported?
Station level
38
What are the bi-monthly checks of the truck?
``` Steering gear box and linkage Steering column Brakes Driveline Differential Radio Air cleaner Air compressor Alternator Fuel pump Cooling system Drive belts Starter Wiring Engine mounts Tires Door/hinges locks Odometer Engine hours Aerial hours Generator Hours ```
39
What are your bi monthly checks of the steer box and linkage?
Move steering wheel back and forth (40-60) rapid movements Check for any looseness or excessive movement of linkage and connections
40
What is your bi monthly check of the steering column?
Grasp top of steering column and attempt to move back and forth Note and report any movement detected
41
What are your bi monthly checks of the brakes?
Inspect all mechanical components for looseness, wear breakage or missing parts Check slack adjusters no more than 2” travel Check brake lines
42
What is your bi monthly check of the drive line?
Try to observe or feel for any measurable up and down movement If any movement detected note and report
43
What is your bi monthly check of the differential?
Check oil level, oil level should be even with plug opening
44
What is your bi monthly check of the air cleaner?
Inspect hoses, ducts, pipe, connections etc for wear brakes and mounting Air cleaner element to be replaced every other year or on an “as needed” basis, determined by amount of inlet restriction by engines diagnostic system (based on last number of shop number)
45
What is your bi monthly check of the air compressor?
Secure mount to engine Audible air leaks Water and oil leaks around compressor area Condition of hoses
46
What is your bi monthly check of the fuel pump?
Inspect for signs of loose mounting and examine fuel lines for hard or spongy condition
47
What is your bi monthly check of the cooling system?
Coolant should be green | Inspect water pump for proper mount and any signs of leakage around “weep” hole and the pump to block mount area
48
What are your bi monthly checks for the drive belts?
No more than 1/2” deflection measured at a point midway between pulleys
49
What is the bi monthly check for the starter motor?
Operate starter motor and listen for unusual noise or operating characteristics While cranking observe for any movement, looseness of mounts
50
What are the bi monthly checks for the engine mounts?
Check for looseness of mounts and or damage to rubber
51
What is the bi monthly checks for tires?
Use tire depth gauge on center of tire, a reading 1/8” or less should be reported on F-377 and called in for replacement
52
How do you lubricate king pins on steering axles?
Current method of lubricating king pin thrust bearings is to jack up each wheel at axle Removes load on bearings
53
How do you lubricate universal joints?
Observe grease seeping past all 4 cross bearing seals If grease does not show up, tap opposite side of yoke with plastic or similar type hammer while applying lube gun pressure
54
How do you lubricate drive shaft slip yoke to prevent falling or seizing?
Apply grease to the fitting until it appears at the relief hole in the end of the yoke plug
55
Who lubes the brake caliper assembly?
The shops lube them during annual aerial test because they require a special, high temperature, high pressure grease by Rockwell
56
Can you use wire brushes to clean old grease off of aerial ladder?
No
57
After lubing the aerial at what degree do you hoist the aerial ladder to before retracting it?
60 degrees, prevent new grease from being scrapped off when retracted
58
How do you lubricate the fifth wheel?
Tractor in-line, 60 degrees to left and right Allows grease to travel completely around fifth wheel race
59
What are the 6 special lube instructions?
``` King pin (steering axles) Universal joints Driveshaft slip yoke Brake caliper assembly (done by shops) Aerial ladder Fifth wheel ```
60
What type of inflation on tires imposes excessive strain on tire cords, wreaking their resistance to impact and could cause tire to rupture and blow outs?
Over inflation
61
What type of inflation is the enemy of the tire life and one of the primary causes of tire failure, increases flexing, causes heating, reduced strength, breakdown, and possible separation of the tire components, and increase rolling resistance which increases fuel consumption and reduces tread life?
Under inflation
62
Inflation pressures should always be checked when tires are what temperature?
Cold
63
Never do what to tires when hot to relive normal pressure build up?
Bleed air
64
Unequal inflation on set of dual tires causes more of the load to be absorbed by 1 tire than the other, this overload condition may cause an overheating condition leading to premature failure of how many tires?
1 or both
65
Measurements for tread depth shall not be made at what 3 locations of the tire?
Tie bars, humps, or fillets
66
Tires shall be replaced at what 3 instances?
Tire depth at or less than 4/32”, tire showing evidence of tread separating from tire case, tires showing any exposed fabric through tread or sidewall
67
Air dryers are replaced every how many years for LTI (based on shop number)?
2 years
