TARGETED THERAPIES FOR CANCER Reporters 18 Flashcards
(16 cards)
Angiogenesis inhibitors
- blocks the growth of blood vessels so cancer cells won’t get their
supply of nutrients. Others go after different substances that trigger blood vessel growth.
Small-molecule drug
- blocks cancer cells from multiplying and spreading by targeting cells
on the inside because of its small size, making it easy to enter cells; inhibits enzymes and
formation of new vasculatures, induces apoptosis.
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor/Receptor Inhibitors-
agents that inhibit the activity of
VEGF and VEGFR.
ANGIOGENESIS INHIBITORS/RECEPTOR INHIBITORS
Bevacizumab
ANGIOGENESIS INHIBITORS/RECEPTOR INHIBITORS
Bevacizumab
Indicated for management of cervical, colorectal, and ovarian cancers;
metastatic RCC; non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); and relapsed
glioblastoma multiforme
Epidermal Growth Factor/Receptor Inhibitors-
bind to different areas of the epidermal growth
factor receptor which then blocks its activity to activate Tyrosine Kinase.
EPIDERMAL GROWTH FACTOR INHIBITORS
Osimertinib
Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors/Signal transduction inhibitors
are the most common targeted
therapies. They are a part of a protein that acts like a cell’s on and off switch. Tyrosine kinase
inhibitors block these enzymes from sending signals that cause a cancer cell to grow or
multiply.
Multikinase Inhibitors-
chemicals that directly obstruct the activity of specific kinases in cancer cells as well as cancer cell vasculature.
TYROSINE KINASE INHIBITORS/ MULTIKINASE INHIBITORS
Alectinib
mTOR Kinase Inhibitors-
atypical serine/threonine protein kinase that helps regulate cell growth,
proliferation, and survival. Inhibitors of mTOR lead to G1 arrest and apoptosis.
mTOR KINASE INHIBITORS
Temserolimus
Proteasome Inhibitor
blocks the action of proteasomes by preventing it from eating up excess
proteins.
PROTEASOME INHIBITORS
Bortezomib
Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs)
also known as therapeutic antibodies, are proteins
produced in the lab that imitates the body’s natural immune system to fight off cancer.
