5th - Science U4 L1 cells Flashcards
Every cell in every living thing comes from
Another cell that has split or divided
All organisms or living things are made up of
Cells
There are two kinds of cells they are
Unicellular and multicellular
Talk about Unicellular life processes
It’s life processes get carried out by a single cell
Some life processes are growing responding to its environment, reproducing, And getting food
Multicellular
With this many cells carry out its life processes. Cells work together to take care of different functions
Both plant and animal cells perform life processes by using
Organelles
Parts of an animal cell
Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, mitochondria, vacuoles
Cell membrane
- Flexible wrapped located around the outside of the cell
- gives the cell shape
- controls what goes in and out of one cell
Cytoplasm
- gel like liquid located between cell membrane and nucleus
- support cell structures
Nucleus
Description is a large round organelle
Location is the center of the cell
It controls the master plans for the cell
Mitochondria
Supply energy by breaking down food which releases energy
Vacuoles
1) Description: membrane covered structure is used for storage water food and waste
2) stores water food and waste
Plant cells have many of the same structures and organelles, however plant cells are different than animal cells because of two things. They are
Shape is larger than animal cells and plants have more organelles than animals
Cell wall
Located outside of the cell membrane. Provides a plan with strength and support
Chloroplast
1) Description green structure comes from energy from sunlight
2) Green because they contain chlorophyll which is able to use energy from the sun for plants
