5th - Science U4 L1 - study Guide Flashcards
Any living thing that can carry out its life function
Organism
Smallest unit of living things. Can preform life functions
Cell
A basic structure inside a cell that help plant and animal cell
Organelle
Having one cell
Unicellular
Having many cells
Multicellular
Allow plants to use sun’s energy
Chlorophyll
Magnifies objects
Microscope
What makes up a cell?
Cell membrane Vacuole Cytoplasm Mitochondria Nucleus Cell wall Chloroplast Chlorophyll
Gives the cell its shape. Flexible wrapping on outside of cell
Cell membrane
Membrane covered structure that can store food, water and waste
Vacuole
Gel like liquid between a nucleus and cell membrane
Cytoplasm
Supplies energy for cell. Breaks down food and releases energy from food.
Mitochondria
Controls cells activities. It is found in the center of the cell
Nucleus
ONLY IN PLANT CELL! Stiff structure outside cell membrane that provides strength and support
Cell wall
ONLY IN PLANT CELL - where food is made in plants
Chloroplast
