Q

What is an object that transforms electrical energy to light or heat as it slows electrons in an electrical circuit, such as a lightbulb?

A

Resistor

16
Q

The amount of ____________________ moving through a circuit is measured in units called __________.

A

Electric charge, amperes (A) or amps

17
Q

Light is vibrating what?

A

Electrical and magnetic energy

18
Q

Light waves vibrate in directions _______________ to the direction of their motion.

A

Perpendicular

19
Q

What two types of properties does light have?

A

Particles and light waves

20
Q

What do objects that do not allow light to pass through cause?

A

Shadow

21
Q

What does the size of the shadow depend on?

A

The angle and the distance between the light source and an object.

22
Q

What do plants use to carry out photosynthesis?

A

Solar radiation

23
Q

Explain how electrical energy can be used to provide heat and light for a room. What energy transformations occur? Where does the electricity come from?

A

The electrical energy is sent through wires and cables to homes and businesses. Electrical energy can be converted to light and heat energy. Inside the lightbulb is a filament which resists electric current that heats and glows. Electrical devices change this energy into other kinds of energy such as thermal, light and mechanical. Most of electrical energy comes from power plants that burn fuel to make electricity.

24
Q

What part of the flashlight is the resistor?

A

Lightbulb

25
Q

Which part of the flashlight make up the circuit?

A

Conductors, switch, voltage source, and resistor

26
Q

Which part of the flashlight can open or close the circuit?

A

Switch

27
Q

Explain how the weightlifter transforms chemical energy into mechanical energy.

A

When he eats food, chemical energy passes to him. When you move, his muscles change the chemical energy from the food you ate into mechanical energy.

28
Q

What is the source of light energy in the photo with the trees?

A

The sun

29
Q

Besides light energy, what else is the electrical energy of the lightbulb being changed into?

A

Thermal energy
