Boston Massacre Trial Flashcards
(6 cards)
Kevin: “What werer some of the events leading up to the massacre?”
Samuel Atwood, James Brewer, Sam Gray, and I were at the White Horse Tavern on King St. when we heard a tremendous commotion outside. Everyone rushed out and joined a crowd that was heckling British soldiers standing guard in front of the Custom House. The fire bell starting ringing and the crowd grew. Then a British soldier arrived with seven men.
Kevin will say “I call Edward Langford to the stand.” Then I will say…
I Edward Langford am a patriot who saw the horrible massacre of five Boston citizens. I had nothing to do with the fights at the rope walk, but I did know Sam Gray one of the rope makers killed at the massacre. I do believe the soldiers were out to get him.
Kevin: “Did you see any of the soldiers do anything suspicious?”
I saw the soldiers form a semi-circle around the front of the Custom House door.
Kevin: “What did you see?”
Some people in the crowd were throwing snowballs. I saw a British soldier aim his bayonet in the direction of Richard Palmes. Then I heard the explosion of a musket. Then I say Capt. Preston raise his arm and heard “fire”. I also saw a soldier point his musket at where Sam Gray and I were standing.
Kevin: “What did you do in response?”
I said “Don’t fire” But then I heard a deafening explosion and saw Sam Gray laying on the ground with a huge hole in his head and blood pouring out.
Kevin: “What did you do then?”
I grabbed him under the shoulders and dragged him away from the soldiers.
