Foreshadowing
to show or indicate beforehand.
Allusion
a brief reference to a well-known person, place, event, (etc.)
Imagery
words and phrases that evoke images and other sensory experiences in the reader’s mind.
Irony
1) Situational Irony- an occurrence that is the opposite of what is expected
2) Verbal Irony- the author says something that means the opposite
Red Herring
clues left from the author intended to divert the reader from the real problem.
Suspense
being undecided

Hyperbole
a big exaggeration
