King Philip II of Macedonia (region north of Greece). He unified the Greek city-states by conquering them. Died from poison or murder probably.

Alexander the Great
He became king after his father's death at age 20. He was educated by Aristotle. He started a campaign against Persia. Alexander conquered the Persian Empire and went as far as the Indus River valley. He died in 323 B.C. Alexander's conquests led to cultural diffusion-Greek and Persian culture blended together.

Persian War
Persia attempted to conquer Greece but failed. Greek city-states allied together to stop Persia. The word Marathon comes from the Persian War.

Pelopponesian War
Even though Athens and Sparta allied together to stop Persia, the rivalry between them was undeniable. Sparta worked with the Persian to defeat the Athenians. Athens lost to Sparta, but Sparta was not able to rule all the city-states they conquered. This weakened Greece as a whole.
