Flashcards in Pituitary Disorders Deck (7):
1

Posterior pituitary problems mostly relate to what?

Adenomas

2

What causes hyper function of the anterior pituitary?

Adenomas
Hyperactivity of target gland

3

What is syndrome of inappropriate ADH (SIADH)?

Hypersecretion of ADH

4

What is the etiology of SIADH?

An ectopic tumor secreting ADH-like substance

5

What occurs in SIADH and why? (2)

-Increased ADH leads to increased water retention, sodium follows. Since water is in excess to sodium it's called DILUTED HYPONATREMIA
- increased blood vol suppresses renin secretion & RAAS leading to less aldosterone and impaired sodium resorption

6

What is the treatment for mild SIADH?

Fluid restriction
Diuretics
ADH antagonists (aquaretics-block ADH receptors)

7

Which pituitary has the most problems associated with it?

Anterior pituitary
