In this way, then, the ship goes slowly towards the harbor.

12

But Dikaiopolis sees a light on Salamis

13

So the captain asks where the light is from.

14

When he sees the light, he immediately hurries towards the harbor.

15

CAPTAIN Come over here, you, and look.

ΚΥΒ. (pointing towards the harbor)

16

For we are now approaching the harbor.

17

DIKAIOPOLIS (Looks towards Salamis)

ΔΙΚ.

18

Look, captain:

19

I see a light on the island.

20

CAPT. What are you saying? Where is the light from?

ΚΥΒ. τί φῇς; πόθεν ἡ λαμπάς;

21

DIK. From where? Look!

ΔΙΚ.

22

CAPT. (The captain also looks towards the island.)

ΚΥΒ.

23

O Zeus! It is not a light you are seeing, but fire signals.

ὦ Ζεῦ.

24

SAILOR What are you saying? Do you say fire signals? O Zeus!

25

Come along, captain, hurry, hurry and get us safe into the harbor.

26

CAPT. But I am myself saving you.

ΚΥΒ.

27

Do not be afraid: for I am hurrying, and the ship is already turning towards the harbor.

28

DIK. But why are we hurrying?

ΔΙΚ. ἀλλὰ διὰ τί σπεύδομεν;

29

Is there some danger for us?

ἆρα κίνδυνός τίς ἐστιν ἡμῖν;

30

SAIL. [Yes], by Zeus: we are in danger, Dikaiopolis, I know that well.

ΝΑΥ.

31

We are hurrying because the fire signals show something terrible.

32

DIK. What do the fire signals show?

ΔΙΚ. τί δηλοῖ τὰ πυρά;

33

SAIL. They show clearly that enemy ships are coming against us.

ΝΑΥ.
