Chapter 10 (Summary of Cranial Nerves - Pt II) Flashcards
(Vestibulochochlear Nerve - CN VIII)
Function:
Special sensation of hearing, equilibrium/balance and motion (acceleration/deceleration)
(Vestibulochochlear Nerve - CN VIII)
Component:
Special sensory for hearing and balance
(Vestibulochochlear Nerve - CN VIII)
Origin:
Brainstem (junction between pons and medulla)
(Vestibulochochlear Nerve - CN VIII)
Cranial exit:
Internal acoustic meatus
(Glossopharyngeal Nerve - CN IX)
Function:
- Somatic motor to stylopharyngeus muscle and visceral motor to the parotid gland
- Special sensory (taste) to posterior third of tongue
- General sensation to pharynx, tonsillar sinus, pharyngotympanic tube, and middle ear cavity
(Glossopharyngeal Nerve - CN IX)
Component:
Somatic motor, visceral motor, special sensory (taste), somatic sensory, viseral sensory
(Glossopharyngeal Nerve - CN IX)
Origin:
Brainstem (medulla)
(Glossopharyngeal Nerve - CN IX)
Cranial Exit:
Jugular foramen
(Vagus Nerve - CN IX)
Function:
- Somatic sensory to inferior pharynx and larynx and assists with tough reflex
- Visceral sensory from the thoracic and abdominal organs
- Taste and somatic sensation from the root of tongue and taste buds on epiglottis
- Somatic motor and proprioception to the soft palate, pharynx, intrinsic laryngeal muscles
- Parasympathetic function to the thoracic and abdominal viscera
(Vagus Nerve - CN IX)
Component:
Somatic motor, visceral motor, special sensory (taste), somatic sensory, visceral sensory
(Vagus Nerve - CN IX)
Origin:
Brainstem (medulla)
(Vagus Nerve - CN IX)
Cranial exit:
Jugular foramen
(Spinal Accessory Nerve - CN XI)
Function:
Motor innervation to the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles
(Spinal Accessory Nerve - CN XI)
Component:
Somatic motor
(Spinal Accessory Nerve - CN XI)
Origin:
Superior spinal cord
