Severity of Burns
A
1st degree - blanchable redness (superficial)
2nd degree - blisters, wheeping, edema (partial thickness)
3rd degree - subcut, edema, eschar, pain reduced
4th degree - Muscle and bone involved, eschar, severe edema, no pain (full thickness)

A
- Head 9% (4.5% front/back)
- Arms 9% each (4.5% front/back)
- Torso 32% (18% front/back)
- Legs 18% each (9% front/back)

Tx for Burns
A
- LR for fluid (Lots of it! 4ml x kg x %burn over 24hr)
- IV analgesic
- tetanus shot
- foley for strict I/O
- normothermia

Burn Complications (9)
A
- Hyperkalemia
- Dehydration
- Compartment syndrome (tight skin and/or third spacing increases pressure on vessels)
- Hypovolemic shock
- Hyperglycaemia (increased cortisol)
- Inhalation injury
- carbon monoxide poisoning (false SPO2 reading) blast O2
- Burn sepsis
- ARDS

Pressure Ulcer Stages
A
- erythema
- shallow open wound, red or pink
- subcutaneous fat visible
- muscle or bone visible
- unstageable: eschar or slough in the way
